Changing field without starting a degree from scratch

Several routes exist between a short course and a full degree, and they differ in cost, length and what they are worth to an employer.

Credit for prior learning lets some institutions convert work experience, military training or professional certifications into academic credit, usually by examination or portfolio. It is uneven between institutions and worth asking about by name, because it can remove a substantial amount of time and cost.

Stackable certificates are short qualifications that count towards a longer one if you continue. The attraction is that each stage is useful on its own, so stopping is not the same as wasting the time.

Employer tuition support is more common than people assume and frequently unclaimed. Terms vary: what is covered, whether it is paid up front or reimbursed, whether it is taxable, and what happens if you leave soon after.

Industry certifications in some fields carry more hiring weight than an additional degree, particularly in technology and skilled trades. Which those are changes over time, which is why reading current job adverts beats any list that could be written here.

What to do next. Ask prospective institutions what credit for prior learning they grant, and ask your employer what tuition support exists in writing.
studentaid.gov outranks this page. Rules, figures and dates change between academic years. This is written to help you read the official sources, not to stand in front of them. Start there.
Nothing here is a determination. We cannot tell you what you qualify for, and no website can. The programme and the office that runs it decide that, after you apply.
